Reading US, Japanese and Chinese addresses in Korean

A Korean rendering is a reading aid for understanding an overseas address. Proper-name translation is not always unique, so keep the original address for shipping labels and official documents.

US addresses

US addresses commonly contain a recipient, street number and name, unit, City, state abbreviation and ZIP Code. NY refers to New York State even when it appears beside New York City.

Secondary-unit markers such as APT, UNIT and STE are important for delivery. Keep their original numbers and identifiers when making a reading aid.

Japanese addresses

Japanese source addresses often run from prefecture and municipality toward chome and building number. Romanized international-mail forms may reverse that flow, so do not assume a component is missing only from its position.

Japan Post provides international-label guidance using the Roman alphabet and Arabic numerals. Use Korean only as a reading aid and ship with the recipient-confirmed Japanese or romanized address.

Chinese addresses and shared cautions

Chinese addresses commonly move from province or municipality through city and district to street and building number. A Korean reading of Chinese characters can differ from a Korean transcription of the local pronunciation.

For any country, do not submit names, phone numbers or access codes to a public translation service. Keep the country, region, city and street separate from unit details and the postcode.
